Tiled roofs across the six towns

Older tiled roofs in Eastbourne and Bexhill often have decorative ridges, bays, dormers and several valleys, where each junction is a possible entry point for water. Newer estates and outer residential areas are more likely to have concrete tiles on simpler roof shapes.

In Peacehaven, roofs on neighbouring plots can differ in age, pitch and material, and many have been extended. Hastings, Seaford and Brighton mix older properties with later housing. Each town page below links to our local tiled roof and repair services.

Diagnosing slipped, cracked and missing tiles

A slipped or broken tile is usually a symptom. Fixings and battens may be wearing out, ridge and verge mortar may have weakened, or wind may have lifted tiles on an exposed elevation. We check the surrounding area as well as the obvious defect, because replacing one tile does not help if the tiles beside it are about to move.

Inside the loft, signs such as staining on timbers or damp underlay help show how long water has been getting in. Our article on cracked, slipped or missing tiles explains how urgently different defects need attention.

When renewal makes more sense

Targeted repairs are sensible where the roof is generally sound. Where tiles are failing across large areas, underlay has deteriorated or repairs keep recurring, re-roofing a section or the whole roof may be more economical over time.

Where tiles need replacing, matching the existing roof helps keep its appearance and weather resistance consistent. If your property is listed or in a conservation area, check with your local council before changing materials or the roof's appearance. We can record the roof and set out the options for that conversation.

Your questions

Tiled Roof Repairs and Replacement in East Sussex: FAQs

Is a single slipped tile urgent?
It depends on its position and the condition of the surrounding roof. A gap can let rain reach the underlay, so it is best to have it checked rather than left through wet weather.
Do you work on both clay and concrete tiles?
Yes. Our tiled roof service covers repairs and replacement of tiled roofs, and we assess the existing tiles before recommending materials.
Should I go up and look myself?
No. Do not climb onto the roof. Note what you can see from the ground or inside the loft and contact us.
