Common gutter problems
Overflowing gutters are usually blocked by leaves, moss or debris, or have lost their fall so water sits rather than draining. Leaking joints, cracked sections and loose brackets let water run down the wall, which may lead to damp inside. Downpipes can also block at bends or where they discharge, sending water back up into the gutter.
We clear blockages, check outlets and downpipes, and look at whether brackets and the fascia behind them are sound. Repeatedly soaked fascias are a sign the gutter problem has been going on for some time. Gutter damage often affects the fascia behind it, which is why we look at the roofline as part of the same visit.

Hidden and exposed gutters
Brighton's period terraces often have valley and parapet gutters that cannot be seen from the street, so blockages may go unnoticed until water appears indoors. In Seaford's older streets, gutters and downpipes are part of how flint buildings shed water. Debris from flat roofs and dormers can also collect in parapet gutters on period buildings.
On seafront and clifftop properties in Eastbourne, Bexhill and Peacehaven, gutters on exposed elevations take much of the weather. Choose your town below for local gutter repair pages. Hastings hillside homes also have exposed elevations where gutters and roofline materials take the weather.
Help & advice
Cleaning frequency and timing
Many properties benefit from gutter checks at least once a year, often after autumn leaf fall, with more frequent checks near trees. Our advice article on gutter cleaning explains what happens when gutters are left. Coastal storms can also loosen brackets or dislodge sections, so a check after severe weather is sensible.
Please avoid working from ladders yourself. If you notice water spilling over the gutter in heavy rain, staining on walls or plants growing from gutters, note where and contact us. Overflowing water can soak walls repeatedly, leading to damp patches indoors over time.
